6 Tips for An Easy And Smooth Move

Packing is fun when it is for a trip. But packing your entire life to move to another house? Not-so-fun. However, packing doesn’t have to be a complete catastrophe. In fact, if you learn how to pack, you will find that the process is so much easier than you thought it would be.

“Moving is one of these things that feel so stressful before you start, but once you do, it goes on fast, and you’ll find yourself settling into your new space before you know it. So, the key here is to plan ahead and get to know some moving tips before to make the process as smooth as possible,” said a group of Movers in Northern VA.

Here are some moving and packing tips:

1. Prepare before

The first and most obvious tip is to prepare ahead of time. Moving and packing your entire life is already stressful, you don’t need to add a tight schedule to it. There are many moving tips out there, and some of them won’t work for you, but that doesn’t mean that others won’t.

Since there are tons of details when it comes to moving like how to pack a moving truck, cancel services, and arrange things in your new place before moving, there are many things that could go wrong. Therefore, there is no one right answer for moving or a guide that fits all scenarios that could arise during the move itself. So, it is important to keep a positive attitude about it, start preparing as soon as possible and stay organized by having a moving checklist and reminders because you will most likely forget things.

2. Consider decluttering before packing

If you start packing literally every single thing you have in your house, you will get overwhelmed. It is likely that you have a lot of things that you don’t need at your house, so why not declutter them while you are already going through your stuff? Think of it like having a cleaner and decluttered start. This of course requires you to start early because it can be time-consuming.

So, before you pack your boxes, look through the things before you put them inside and get rid of unnecessary things or things you have not used for a long time because you probably won’t use them, even if you think you will. It will make things much easier for you–less to pack, less to store inside the new place.

3. Make utility appointments for the new place

Once you have signed the contract and know exactly when you are going to move in, schedule utility appointments for your new house. Issues might occur with electricity, water, or/and temperature regulation, so you want to make sure you have everything ready before you get busy with packing.

You don’t want to arrive in your new place and find that everything is not done yet. So, finish these things ahead of time, and simultaneously, make sure that you request to stop services at the place you are going to leave on your move-out date to avoid extra expenses.

4. Prepare an “essentials” bag

As mentioned, things could go wrong when moving such as the moving truck being late or something happening, and you need to move a day later. So, it is best if you prepare a bag that has all the essentials and to keep it with you–things like toothbrushes, diapers if you have babies, important paperwork, medications, pet food if you have pets, etc.… if there is a change in plans, this makes you prepared.

5. Prepare a folder with all the important papers

Prepare a folder that has all the important documents such as rental papers, purchase papers, contracts, new addresses, and basically anything related to your new place and your old one as well. Having a hard copy is better than relying on digital copies just in case something happens with your devices, and you need the papers at the moment.

6. Buy moving supplies

Right before you plan on packing, buy all the moving supplies you need, because the last thing you want to do is have to go to the store in the middle of all the chaos because you ran out of packing supplies. Order everything you need like card boxes, box cutters, adhesive bandages, markers, paper towels, etc.… and even if you order more than you use, you can always use them another time. However, for larger things like sofas and tables, hire a moving company and they will have the equipment.
